EDWARD K. CHEFFY is certified by The Florida Bar as a specialist in both Civil Trial Law and Business Litigation Law. He graduated with honors from Harvard University with a degree in History and Literature and received his law degree, with honors, from the Ohio State University College of Law. From 1985 through 1993, he served as partner in charge of Florida litigation and trial work for Frost & Jacobs (now known as Frost Brown Todd), a large firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since 1993 he has practiced with Cheffy Passidomo. Mr. Cheffy is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell. In 2000, he received the prestigious Donald E. Van Koughnet “Lion of the Law” Award for Professionalism from the Collier County Judiciary. In 2004 he was selected for the inaugural list of “Florida Trend’s Legal Elite,” and he has been selected for that list each year since then through 2008. He was also selected for the inaugural list of “Florida Super Lawyers” in 2006 and for subsequent editions of that list in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, he was voted by his peers as one of “The Top 100 Super Lawyers” in Florida. In addition, he was selected for inclusion in the 25th anniversary edition, published in 2008, of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Cheffy has served as Chairman of Grievance Committee 20B, which is responsible for lawyer disciplinary matters and ethical issues for Florida’s Twentieth Judicial Circuit. In 2006, he was appointed by Chief Judge Patricia C. Fawsett to serve as Chairperson of the Grievance Committee for the Fort Myers Division of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He has served as Chairman of the Collier County Bar Association’s Trial Lawyers Section and as President of the Thomas S. Biggs Chapter of the Inns of Court. He also served two terms as chair of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 20th Judicial Circuit from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he was elected to the Executive Council of The Florida Bar’s Trial Lawyers Section, and he served on that Council through 2008. Since 1996, Mr. Cheffy has served on the Faculty and Steering Committee for The Florida Bar's annual Board Certification Review Course for Civil Trial Law, and he began serving as Chair of that committee in 2005. At the Board Certification Review Course, he lectures for The Florida Bar on "Ethical Issues Facing the Civil Trial Lawyer." Mr. Cheffy’s community service includes serving as Chair of the Board of Hospice of Naples, and he currently serves on the Board of The Community School of Naples. From 2000 to 2002, he, along with Andrew Reiss, coached Community School’s mock trial team, which won three county championships, three regional championships and two state championships. In 2003, he and John Passidomo were selected as laureates in the Jr. Achievement of Southwest Florida Business Leadership Hall of Fame. The cases Mr. Cheffy handles include commercial, business, construction and real estate disputes, as well as probate, product liability, and personal injury litigation. |
